Professional Bio:
My current research interests are in understanding functional capabilities of older adults, quantification of physical and mental workload, modeling frustration when using automated devices, worker skills and training for advanced manufacturing technologies, and other traditional ergonomics/human factors engineering issues. My current research on older adults is supported by the National Institutes of Health and the Paso del Norte Health Foundation. Frustration modeling research (joint with Samuel Riccillo and Luis Rene Contreras) is currently supported by the Army Research Laboratory. My research on physical and mental workload quantification is also currently supported by the Army Research Laboratory. I have been a co-PI on a grant from the Society of Manufacturing Engineers Education Foundation’s Manufacturing Education Plan. My manufacturing research has been supported by the Institute for Manufacturing and Materials Management at UTEP. Other previous sponsors of my work have included Savane Corporation (on predictive maintenance of industrial machinery), and the El Paso Chamber of Commerce.
