Magdy Attia
Professional Bio:
Dr. Magdy Attia is currently serving as the chair of the Council of Deans, founding dean of the College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics and James B. Duke Distinguished Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at Johnson C. Smith University (JCSU).
Dr. Attia is the founding chair of computer science and engineering, 1999, and the founding director of the Technology Center, 1998, at JCSU. He is the 2006 recipient of the Dr. Richard Neel Career Achievement Award of the Information Technology Charlotte of the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce, the recipient of the Nations Bank Par Excellence Teaching award, the O’Herron Distinguished Faculty Award, the Carolinas Associate Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching in the Carolinas and the Distinguished Service Award at Johnson C. Smith University.
Dr. Attia is credited for building the Department of Computer Science and Engineering.The department is nationally recognized and has been ranked in the top 1% in graduating African-Americans in computer science and information systems for the last seven years.
Dr. Attia has a broad spectrum of experience at the national and international levels; he is an educator and a researcher in technology areas that cover electrical and computer engineering, microwaves and millimeter-waves technologies, wireless telecommunications systems, the solution of inverse problems, microwave measurements, nondestructive testing, computer networking, modeling, software engineering and process design and analysis. Dr. Attia is an electrical, electronics and telecommunications engineer by training.
