Winser Alexander
Professional Bio:
Dr. Winser E. Alexander is the Interim Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. He serves as the Chief Academic Officer at North Carolina A&T State University with the assistance of senior administrative staff and assistants. He also serves as a key member of the Chancellor’s cabinet.
Alexander served as Interim Dean of the College of Engineering at North Carolina A&T State University from July 2009 until June 2011. His responsibilities included serving as the chief administrator for the College of Engineering which includes seven (7) departments. Other administrative experiences include, Chairperson of the Department of Electrical Engineering at North Carolina A&T State University from 1976-1982. Alexander also served as Director of Graduate Programs for Electrical and Computer Engineering at North Carolina State University from 1988-1997 and 2001-2002. In addition to Alexander’s administrative leadership, he has many years of experience serving on the faculty at North Carolina A&T State University and North Carolina State University.
Alexander has received numerous honors and awards including the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics and Engineering Mentoring, the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) Minorities in Engineering, and the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) Dr. Janice A. Lumkin Educator of the Year Award.
His patents are Winser E. Alexander, System for Enhancing Fine Detail in Thermal Photographs, and Jens P. Dywab, Winser E. Alexander, and Carl P. Zinnow, A Microbalance System.
A native of Columbia, NC, Alexander began his academic career as an Aggie, graduating from A&T in 1964 with a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering. He received his M.S. and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of New Mexico in 1966 and 1974 respectively.
